Scenario: A person P on this planet has to decide between two options:
Be an atheist (A)
or
Be a theist (T)
What should his strategy be? should he go with the first option or the second one?
Assumption: Person P believes in rationality which implies that, he will go with that option which gives him maximum payoff ( return or gain or any kind of profit).
Solution:
Two possible conditions can be there
God Exists (GE)
or
God Doesn't Exist (GDE)
for each of the conditions and the associated options, there can be two kinds of payoffs:
He will get screwed by God: Screwed
or
He won't get screwed as there is no God: Not Screwed.
Payoff matrix:
Since person P is supposed to behave rationally, he will choose the dominant strategy to maximise his payoff (gain).
Dominant strategy: Game theory says that dominant strategy (option) is the one which is better than another strategy (option) for one player, no matter how that person's opponents may play.
In this case, strategy " Theist" has highest payoff as the outcome is "not screwed" in both the conditions.
Conclusion: One should always try to be a theist no matter god exists or not. Mathematically this policy will bring him the highest gain.

ReplyDeleteNice analysis Mr.Sheetal . I was also thinking how many things Mathematics can explains in a better way than thinking in spiritual or logical manner. Just reading Stochastic Process in queuing theory ,this is what I inferred from my readings :

ReplyDeleteSheetal , i found that you made one wrong assumption that GOD will act as human being thats why in the first case of Atheist , he is screwed. But that case is feasible if God is like human beings i.e wanna prove HIS worth or existence. God will not care if you believe in Him or not . Remember " Maan se ravan jo nikale ram uss ke maan mein hai " . Aur also its like the saying goes by "Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren't"

ReplyDeletestochastic processes have sometimes known probability of the future events..but i think..ur life doesn't have even that...ur life is a game theory application in uncertainty condition...which implies that...you don't know about the probability of the future outcomes arising out of the interaction between you and nature....
first of all I want to ask you why a prson will be screwed if heis an athiest. if god exists ,is he selfish? who likes only thiests. lets take an exanple of a person x. x does not know God exists or not. he doesnt worship god, he even even does not think about god. he knows whatever he is doing is right according to him. he has no cofusion about his life philosophies. he is happy with his life. other people are also happy baecause of his presence. what do you call him athiest or thiest?

he believes in god. he worship god. he does not do things which are wrong according to his god. he is happy with his life. other people are also happy because of his presense. but he has created a fear in his mind that god will punish him if he does somthing wrong.
Now Mr x and My y both are happy. but y has constraint named god. that decreases his enjoyment.
whatever you have calculated is right only if god is selfish. I dont think people who believes in god can use this word for god.
what is athiest one who doesn't believe in god's presense or who insults god?
you calculation can be fit for second type of people. every knows 99% of people has god as a constraint, not as it should be. I would like you to confirmn it. use slangs for someones god in front of one who worships his god. you would see one being get hurt, I dont know this hurt would be because of you or because of god. but I am sure Mr x would never get hurt if you behave same with him.
who is a thiest who belives in god without constraints or who believes in god with constraints. I never met a thiest of first type.
